Safeguarding – Keeping safe can be different for everyone but it is important your safety is made a priority.
Safeguarding is in place to help make sure you are kept safe all of the time. This is whether you are in your own home, someone else, in the community, in hospitals, with friends, or family, or carers.
Any situation you are in, safeguarding is in place to make sure you keep safe.
The link below explains more about what safeguarding is and how it keeps you safe.
People who support you may find the link below helpful to explain about safeguarding and what this means for you (the person they are supporting).

Being supported to live the life you want.
We all might need a bit of support from time to time. This might be from friends, family or carers.
Having support does not mean you cannot live the life you want to. The support you receive should only help you to live the life you want.
It is important that the people supporting you, or if you are supporting someone with a learning disability, have discussions or try to understand how you (the person) wants to be supported and what sort of life is important to you (the person).
The video below shares examples of how people like to be supported and how this can help them live the life they want. This is a helpful video for anyone supporting someone with a learning disability.

It is important to feel safe in new relationships.
What do we mean by this?
Feeling safe is more than just knowing that other people will not hurt or harm you. Though of course this if very important.
It also means you can rely on your support to be there for you.
You feel reassured that people around you will support you in the right way.
You know that people around you are working to give you a good life.
Those who support you might want to find out more about this. Click below to download an information sheet about why feeling safe in relationships is so important.
Circle of Security have made a video for parents. But it is useful for staff too.
It shows how important it is to ‘be with’ someone when they are feeling distressed.
It is easy to ‘react’ from our own emotions when supporting someone. But we should also try to notice how they feel.
We need to ‘respond’ rather than ‘react’.

Staying safe in all relationships
There are lots of different types of relationships that we experience at different points in our lives.
It is important that we stay safe in all of these relationships.
