This week we’re going to start by taking a look into what you can find in the practical stuff section of this website.

Why Practical Stuff?

People who have moved as part of Transforming Care talked about all sorts of things that they had to do and learn as part of the moving process. There was a lot of planning involved, and there were choices to be made about where to live, what to buy etc. In fact, anyone who has ever moved will be able to tell you that there are so many things to sort out during moving! Some are exciting, like planning what we might want in our new home; others can be unfortunately more boring, but necessary – like setting up paying bills!

What will I find here?

We have divided this section of the site into three main areas:

Before moving – this is for the early stages of moving, when it is just being first thought about. Here you will find ideas about planning for the move, such as a checklist for what to look out for when finding a new property. Some people like to be really involved in moving, and others don’t, and there is a form here to download and fill out, so everyone knows how much the person moving wants to be involved.

Waiting to move – this part is for once the move is planned and all ready to go… and then for helping if it gets stuck or goes wrong! There is information here on who does what while moving, the stages that need to happen with an example timeline. There is also a link to the BILD website where you can find ideas of useful things to do whilst waiting to move. Leaving somewhere you have become to know well can be really difficult and hard for some people. The importance of having good endings has been recognised through talking to people who have moved. Therefore, within this section you can also find some information about ways of saying goodbye to an old placement or people.

After moving – this is for once the move has taken place. As mentioned above there is a lot of things involved in moving and this does not stop once the move has happened. One of the most important things is keeping safe both in the new placement and when out and about. There is a lot of information to help people be aware of ways of keeping safe. Money can also be a very confusing things to have to manage so there is links here to help with understanding this. Once a move has happened things can still go wrong and so there is a document that can be downloaded and filled in with the key people to contact when certain things happen.
